Abstract

The Electric Arc Furnace (EAF) suffers from various drawbacks such as low quality of power, increased harmonics
and Flicker in voltage. In our work, we have proposed a new optimal solution to improve the power factor in EAF
using Solid State Transformer and Bidirectional concept of Buck-Boost system using Battery storage of energy (S2B

Matrix Converter. To decrease the distortion from input voltage and to get a better current from input without
harmonics, the proposed converter will have Input and Output Filters. In the proposed model, to minimize the
switching rates a DSP based controller is used. Using this proposed model, the Voltage flickers and harmonics
achieved a better performance than the existing systems. The results are validated and presented. The V-I
Characteristics are compared with and without controller and with and without proposed S

converter of matrix.
