Abstract

Heavy elements are considered dangerous environmental pollutants, the danger of which lies in their cumulative characteristic in the bodies of living organisms. In this research, the concentrations of  in the Tigris River sediments (Iraq) were measured using  technology in several locations in Baghdad. In the current research, the degree of sediment pollution has also been evaluated using the contamination factor , The Pollution load index , and the enrichment factor .The results in the current research showed that the degree of sediment pollution was moderate with nickel, chromium, and lead and low contamination with other minerals. This indicates that the water of the Tigris River is suitable for human use.
