Abstract

PyPowerFlow is a free and open source power system analysis toolbox. It has been created using
Python with the help of Tkinter library. The primary objective of the toolbox is to do Power Flow
Analysis (PFA). This software consists of three basic modules such as PFA, Bus Admittance
Matrix and Economic Dispatch. In addition, PFA including grid integrated fixed speed wind
turbine generators is accompanied. The PFA is conducted for a nine-bus system and a three bus
system with and without a wind turbine generator (WTG) by using this proposed software. Also
the power flow results of the test systems are obtained. Furthermore, the economic scheduling
with and without transmission losses of the power system is performed by using the proposed
toolbox. Finally the result of economic dispatch gives the generation fuel cost involved per day of
a given plant. For all modules, the results are displayed in tabular format in a separate GUI
window and can also be exported as a text or as an excel file. Thus the open source toolbox will be
very useful to perform the PFA by the under graduate students of electrical engineering
