Abstract

Demand Side Management (DSM) is used to reduce the peak load stress on the utility by shifting the load demand,
depending on the consumer’s priority. On the utility end, the generating cost can be reduced along with the
reduction of load during peak hours using Demand Response (DR) a part of DSM. Multi-period DC-OPF is
implemented for each hour to find the generation cost for 24 hours. Strawberry based DR-Time Of Use (TOU)
algorithm is proposed to reduce the peak load and the shifted load is optimized using multi-period OPF using the
Power world simulator tool. To achieve this objective the IEEE 24 bus system is considered to analyze the effects of
DSM in load buses. Also, the influence of renewable energy including DSM on Available Transfer Capacity (ATC) is
also analyzed.
