Multiport Fast Charger on the Concept of Active Power Electronic Transformer

Abstract

This paper describes a novel three-port hybrid fast charger for plug in electric vehicle, electric bike and transferring
momentary power from ultra-capacitor to charging station when there is no supply from grid as well as PV array.
Here the three-port active power electronic transformer is considered. The topology consists of a hybrid charging
system which consists of utility grid, batteries, PV panels and ultra-capacitors which are connected via a three-port
power electronic transformer. Various energy storage systems are connected to each other via full bridge inverters.
This system helps to control voltage, current and power rating thereby adequately charging the electric vehicle/bike.
The proposed topology has been verified using MATLAB simulations and hardware has been constructed. The paper
paves the way of effective coordination and efficient use of utility grid, battery and super capacitors in EV charger.
