Abstract

Portland cement concrete possess certain attributes, It is weak in tension and powerful in
compression. As this weakness causes a great impact in its use in construction industry. Plain unreinforced
concrete also possess a fundamental weakness that cracks can be observed before the hardening of the
concrete once it is placed. This cracks leads to fissure, gap which results in decrease in the resistance of the
concrete. One way to avoid such circumstance are by usage of Fiber Reinforced Concrete (FRC).Fibers are
distributed uniformly in the concrete mix which not only increases its structural solidarity but also imporves
its tensile strength. In this study we are opting polypropylene fiber and expanded polystyrene foam as fiber
content in concrete and observing its effect on the compressive and split tensile strength for the duration of
7,14,28 days of water curing. Here M20 grade of concrete is designed. This observation is a trial of
highlighting the changes in the properties of concrete occurs with the inclusion of polypropylene and
expanded polystyrene foam as fiber content in concrete.
