Control of Epidemics by the Local Government: A Case Study

Abstract

The world has encountered a number of epidemics throughout the history. Most of the nations
across the globe are losing lives and resources due to epidemics and pandemics. Epidemics refer to a
community health emergency that disrupts regular health services. Viral infectious diseases such as measles,
dengue, typhoid and diseases infectious by bacteria such as cholera are included in epidemics. The key
reasons for an epidemic are lack of hygiene, contamination of food and drinking water, lack of awareness
and climatic conditions. The impact of epidemics is enormous on the lives and also on the economy. The
sudden outbreaks of epidemics are not uncommon. Some of the diseases have been eradicated and still many
diseases persist to pose a challenge to the community. The current study has emphasized to analyze the
public perception on the effectiveness of Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation in controlling the
epidemics
