Segmentation of lesions in MRI images using Thresholding

Abstract

Medical images are captured using medical imaging modalities such as Magnetic Resonance
Imaging(MRI), Computed Tomography (CT), Positron Emission Tomography (PET), Ultrasound etc.
Automated Medical image analysis is the process of analyzing images in order to find the characteristics of
it which in turn help medical practioners to identify the diseases present in it. Thresholding is one of the
analyzing methods of medical images to identify and analyzelesions present in it,in this paper, the various
thresholding methods and results of it are discussed. The experimental analysis is performed on the real time
MRI image of size 700x680. As a result, optimized entropy based thresholdingmethod produces the better
result when compared to other thresholding methods.
