PERFORMANCE VERIFICATION OF SOLAR POWERED DC-DC CONVERTER WITH Si AND GaN DEVICES

Abstract

— The power generated by solar panels depends on the brightness of the sun. Thus, the output
power and magnitude of voltage is not constant. DC-DC boost converter is one of the available choices to
process electrical power generated from solar panel to desired level. This work is to study the performance
of the boost converter with the input supply from solar panel output. Additionally, the Silicon and Gan
devices will be applied to further verify the power converter performance. The converter performance is
confirming trough the circuit simulation and then verified experimentally. The converter full load efficiency
is at 96% with Gan device. It is designed and tested at input voltage between 12 ~ 18 Vdc with maximum
output voltage of 25 Vdc, 50 W.
