Digital Approach of Malay Literature through Interactive Computer Method (ICM): A Proposed Framework Model

Abstract

This research aim to propose a framework of Interactive-Computer Method (ICM) in the teaching of Malay literature in secondary schools. This method is a proposal for use and application in teaching Malay literature apart from the available methods currently in use. This is a library research using content analysis method. The main source of the study is a document of Malay Literature Syllabus for Form 4 and Form 5. Data was analyzed and discussed descriptively based on the framework of Cognitive theory, Constructive theory,  Innovation theory, the concepts of interactive learning and Behaviorism theory as well as books in the field of computer and multimedia technology.This proposal is based on two premises. Firstly, the methods in teaching Malay Literature are relatively old and traditional that requires a new method which is more interesting and effective. Secondly, computer technology innovation which enables the effective application in teaching and learning especially its interaction characteristic should be beneficial to Malay literature teachers today. The analysis showed that several important aspects should be given attention and is very relevant to teaching based on interactive-computer method. The most important aspects identified are principles of the theory, methodology, strategy, instructional software, multimedia, computer knowledge, software development, material selection, creativity and evaluation for consideration to be implemented in the teaching and learning of Malay Literature in Malaysian secondary schools.
