Abstract

In this letter, a novel ultra wideband (UWB-3.1-10.6 GHz) rectangular patch with U shaped notch with structure of defected ground (DGS) was designed, analyzed and presented. The miniaturization of patch was achieved by cutting a notch in the patch without disturbing the UWB characteristics. A partial ground structure was printed in the back side of the FR-4 substrate and patch was fabricated on the top of the substrate and excited by a microstrip feed line. The antenna is operating in the range of 2-15 GHz. The performance of the antenna can be estimated by the comparison of simulation and experimental results, which show a good agreement in view of return loss (S11) < -10 dB, Voltage Standing Wave Ratio (VSWR) <2, Gain < 5 dB and Omni-directional patterns.
