Research on Peony Cultural Landscape: A Semiotic Perspective

Abstract

The cultural landscape refers to the natural landscape overlaid with cultural features based on human needs. Compared with language, the cultural landscape is hierarchical and systematic, consisting of signs and particular symbolic meanings. So how meaning generating, representing, communicating, transforming, and storing in and through the landscape are some core issues in landscape semiotic research. Compared with the natural landscape, the cultural landscape shows a multifaceted issue connected with various disciplines. This paper attempts to illustrate the specific cultural landscape in a regional area from the holistic perspective in aid of some core cultural semiotic concepts to explore the paradigms of the local cultural landscape and the ecological coexist relationship in the urban construction.
