An Empirical Research of Service-Learning Courses on Fostering Morality and Cultivating Talents for College Students Taking Empathy and Altruism as Examples

Abstract

Fostering morality and cultivating talents is the cardinal mission of higher education
in the present era. Hence, investigating approaches in fostering morality for cultivating talents is the
pivotal responsibility of educationists and administrators. In our current study, a sample of 259
college students have been tested before and after attending for “Service-learning courses”. The
findings prove that the Service-learning courses can upgrade students’ empathetic abilities and
altruistic behavior potentials.Students’ ability of perspective taking, imagination and sympathy are
significantly higher after taking the course. The altruism is predicted positively by perspective taking
of empathy. Therefore, the Service-learning courses is an effective mode in fostering morality and
cultivating talents among college students.Moreover,Service-learning course is a vital strategy in
developing the “Socialist core values” among the college students.
