Abstract

Modernization and urbanization have transformed the physical structure of local socioculture. However, the influx of outsiders who reside with native residents has brought changes to the local culture and society pattern of the area. These changes include the aspects of administration, religious practice, economics as well as social structure. This research focuses on the changes faced by the natives of Desa Mahkota where outsiders had come and reside together in a new settlement. This qualitative-quantitative research is conducted to identify and determine the sociocultural changes through a survey which involves 50 respondernts who are from the native group. Besides that, five informants (senior native) are interviewed to gather information on historical and traditional cultural aspect about the research area. Non-random sampling is used for sampling where the findings show that the influx of outsiders has significant influence on the changes of local socioculture at Desa Mahkota. These changes are obvious in social structure (including administration aspect) and religious-related activities by the natives. Local administrative leadership has shifted from feudalism to modernism, based on democracy. Native residents are affected by the change in their socioculture.
