Abstract

This study aims to analyze the existence and role of middlemen on the economic life of
the seaweed farming community in LabuhanKertasari, West Sumbawa Regency after
transforming economic activities. The research subject is society of LabuhanKertasari
Village, TaliwangSubdistrict, West Sumbawa, which has carried out a transformation of
economic activities into seaweed farmers. Referring to these objectives, research carried
out with an inductive approach using qualitative methods and strategies to build a theory
of research findings is grounded research. The findings in this study state that the
society of LabuhanKertasari, West Sumbawa Regency are not yet ready to carry out
transformation of seaweed farming economic activities, so that they adjustment to be
workers for middlemen, and the economic life of farmers depends on middlemen. The
economic life of seaweed farmers in LabuhanKertasari Village, West Sumbawa
Regency has been dominated by middlemen.
