Abstract

Accidents and Disasters are uncontrolled human events which needs to be dealt in the best possible
way. Such events cause huge loss of life and property due to unavailability of necessary services. Medical aid is
one of the most important factor which fails to reach the desired destination mostly due to road traffic
congestion. With increasing Industrialization & Globalization, the desire to cope up with upcoming industries is
increasing drastically. Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAVs) are recently gaining immense popularity mostly due
to its remarkable features & functionalities. In this paper we have proposed a system which consists of a UAV
used for providing immediate & necessary medical services to the needy. The main motive is to provide
immediate medical help in case of an emergency when other means of medical access are unavailable. An
autonomous drone is constructed to navigate to the user’s location via his/her geographical coordinates
(longitude & latitude). To avoid system failure (Drone crash), obstacle avoidance is implemented using image
processing and ultrasonic sensors. A user interface is designed for requesting medical services such as
antibiotics & drugs, vaccines, syringes, cultures, dressing, antiseptics, blood samples, defibrillators, etc. Drone
navigation would be monitored using Ardupilot Open License Software. The metrics used for evaluation are
speed, distance, time and payload. Our result shows an autonomous flight with obstacle avoidance. A dropping
mechanism is implemented for safe landing of medical services. This system would thus provide an efficient
and faster way for delivering medical services as compared to road based ambulance.
