Stabilization of Expansive Soil by Chemical Technique in Al-Muthanna Governorate, Iraq
When considered from the aspect of engineering, the purpose is to enhance the qualities of expansive soil in terms of bearing capacity, swelling index, degree of compaction, and economic feasibility. It may be possible to improve the expansive soil by applying chemical and mechanical treatments. It is possible to keep the same physical and mechanical properties of expansive soils by combining chemical additives with cement kiln dust (CKD), which is waste material and a byproduct of the cement manufacturing process and has a lower cost than other materials. The use of cement kiln dust improved the geotechnical parameters of swelling soil in this investigation (CKD). After the dry weight ratios of 3, 6, and 12 have been added to soil samples, the samples are analyzed to assess the soil's mechanical, physical, and swelling properties. According to the results, the rising soil and CKD content of 12 percent met the requirements, making the soil appropriate for application as a subgrade layer in the construction of roads and railroads.
