Abstract

Knowledge that exists within an organization's workers, especially in Civil Service, can be effectively extracted and
harnessed to become an extremely valuable tool for the latter's ongoing business objectives and objectives. This work
aims to investigate knowledge management (KM) processes and their implementation in the Mauritian civil service
and seeks to identify success factors affecting KM and attempts to resolve various key issues in the process in the
hope of increasing awareness of KM as a possible solution for improving performance in the public service. The
motivation for this research is to eventually provide an empirical basis from which a model of Knowledge
Management for the Civil Service Organization can be developed. The study shows that KM is still in its infancy in
the civil service and has a long way to go on the KM journey. However, the study identified a number of factors that
are essential to the success of the KM initiative and program in the civil service, more important of which is the
appropriateness and effectiveness of knowledge sharing. This study examines current situation in terms of KM
activities in the Mauritian civil service. However, this research paper is restricted only to the 25 Government
Ministries of the Republic of Mauritius.
