Abstract

Electrodialysis (Ed) Is A Unit Operation For The Separation Or Concentration Of Ions In Solutions Based On Their Selective Electro Migration Through Semipermeable Membranes Under The Influence Of A Potential Gradient. Concentration Of Minerals In Aqueous Solutions And Desalting Of Feed Are The Important Applications Of Ed. During This Transportation Anions Are Able To Permeate Through Anion Selective Membranes,But Are Blocked By The Cation. The Opposite Occurs With Cations, As A Result, Two Different Solutions Are Produced Inside The Stack: One Dilute Known As The ‘Diluate’ And The Other More Concentrated (Termed As ‘Concentrate’) Than The Feeding Solution. Since The Membranes Used In Ed Have The Ability To Selectivity Transport Ions Having Positive Or Negative Charge And Reject Ions Of The Opposite Charge, Hence, Concentration, Removal, Or Separation Of Electrolytes Can Be Achieved By Ed. Using The Right Combination Of Anion Exchange And Cation Exchange Membranes The Ions Of The Feed Solutions Can Be Separated. The Requirement Of Citric Acid Is Increasing Every Year. Therefore, It Is Important To Have An Efficient Recovery Method Following The Production Of Citric Acid. At Present, Most Of The Manufacturers Use The Conventional Method Of Citric Acid Recovery. This Review Focuses On The New Developments Of Recovery Of Citric Acid From The Lime Juice.
