Abstract

In this current age, government officials and leaders from various ministries would use social media to broadcast
their activities, events or services to the Malaysian community in general. This is a good practise in terms of inviting
suggestions and criticism from the public to move towards a public-centric government. These comments can then be
analysed to better assist the government in making better action plans and strategies in public communications.
Sentiment analysis technology can be used to analyse comments or reviews written by social media users. Sentiment
analysis is a proven and developed research field in English, French, Chinese, and other languages. However,
sentiment analysis studies for user reviews that are written in Malay are still rife with shortcomings and need to be
improved. Therefore, this paper will discuss a survey on the implementation of sentiment analysis for analysing
comments in the Malay language and its challenges, as well as the different methods or techniques that can be used
to address the various advantages and disadvantages of each technique.
