Abstract

Magnesium alloys are light weight alloys and AZ91 Mg alloy is used in automobiles, aerospace, ship building. The properties of AZ91 Mg make it hotspot for researchers from last decade. The friction stir welding has been done to joint the AZ91 Mg alloys. The study aimed to investigate the microstructure and mechanical properties like tensile strength, impact strength, hardness at rotational speed 1200rpm and welding speed 24 mm/s of tool. Tensile strength, Impact strength and hardness of friction stir welded joint were evaluated by performing specific tests. The decreasing trend has been seen in tensile strength and impact strength whereas, hardness increased at the middle of weld on comparing base material with friction stir welding joint.
