Abstract

An integral aspect of the electrical power system is electrical distribution system as it transmits electric power from the power plant to factories, households and commercial buildings. For its reliability, system protection is necessary. Protection system requires the process of faults detection and it’s clearing before damaging the major electrical equipment. There is an opportunity to enhance the fault identification and location techniques in distribution network. Recently many machine learning techniques like support vector machine, k-nearest neighbor, Naïve –Byes, Random Forest etc. are implemented for identifying faults present in the distribution system. This review presents the study of fault diagnosis by using different machine learning techniques.
