Abstract

Under varying insolation condition, the PV module should operate at maximum power pointto improve the its efficiency. When the DC motor is driven by photovoltaic array, and the motor characteristics drastically changes under partial shading conditions. For tracking the maximum point under partial shading conditions and run the DC motor with stable operation is big problem for the researchers. This paper, the characteristic of DC motor drive under partial shading conditionsare analyzed for stable operation of drive. Tracking of maximum power point (MPP) becomes a problem when the solar array under partial shading. Under shaded portion of panel, the electric power generated by unshaded and shaded panel caused to the heat generation in the panel. So that solar cells may damage. To overcome this problem, bypass diodes are added across the modules. In this shaded condition peaks in voltage power characteristics are observed. There are so many MPPT algorithms available in literature but, these MPPT methods are not effective due to mismatching of local and global maximum. In this paper, Particle swarm optimization (PSO) maximum power point tracking algorithm with DC motor drive is proposed. The PSO MPPT algorithm able to track the global maximum power point of PV array under partial shaded conditions and control the speed of DC motor. The proposed scheme is tested MATLAB/ Simulink software and Compare with classical Perturb and observe (P&O) MPPT algorithm. Results and conclusions are presented.
