Electro Synthetic Studies On Anodic Ethoxylation Of Acetanilide

Abstract

From the vast literature studies, it is very obvious that only a little quantum of studies
have been carried out on the electrochemical ethoxylation in the aromatic ring. This concept is taken
as a preparatory attempt to find an alternative method to the tedious chemical route and to invent a
direct method of introducing the ethoxy groups into the aromatic ring in a single step. Acetanilide
(1,4-Dimethylbenzene) is of very high industrial importance Electrochemical analytical studies on
acetanilide at platinum and graphite electrode are carried out to find out the working potential of the
oxidation (ethoxylation) process. Electrochemical ethoxylation of acetanilide at platinum electrode is
done by Potentiostatic method using electrolytic cell. The products are separated using preparative
TLC and purified with suitable solvents. The products are characterized by UV, IR, NMR and Mass
spectra
