The personality of women characters in select novels of Bharati Mukherjee: A Psychoanalytical interpretation

Abstract

Sigmund fraud strongly believed that three aspects of the mind Id, Ego, Superego create and comprise a person's personality. He is the founder of psychoanalytic criticism, and it elucidates that Literary texts are like the dreams of the author, which expresses the unfulfilled desires, hidden feelings and emotions, and conflicts.The Freudian central conceptof literary work is a manifestation of the author's neuroses. Bharati Mukherjee has created powerful women charactersin hernnovels, for example, Anjali from Miss New India is bold and independent, seeking her identity and self-development. Bharati Mukherjee emphasizes women's education, self -dignity, thriving for success, and overall development in their life. Tara Chatterjee from The Tree Bride and Desirable Daughters dealt with immigrant life and experience. Devi De Martino from Leave it to Me is entirely different from the other characters she has the motto of vengeance and anger.Bharati Mukherjee has twisted the protagonist of her novels as female characters. She has written in a different dogma from another novelist, particularly the Indian Diaspora.This research article elucidates, how the personality of the characters depends on the psychoanalytical analysis of Sigmund Freud.
