Abstract

Green revolution aim was to make the world a better place to live in with special reference to the self sufficiency of the food for the mankind. Though the yield out of the modern farming known as the green revolution, definitely did its work in terms of crop output for a certain period which was also required at that point in time in 1960.As the usage of synthetic chemical fertilizer started increasing over the period of time with the emphasis to have more output from the given inputs in the field. Sooner the process moved towards exploiting the soil with the increasing usage of the chemical synthetic fertilizers & the usage of enhanced pesticides more & more for the same/better yield, the soil started becoming deprived  in terms of biodiversity , self sufficiency of the required nutrients etc leading to not up to the mark crops in terms of nutrients which eventually led to impacting the health of the mankind adversely and also of the farmers who were trying to buy the strong fertilizers & pesticides at high prices with a heavy interest loans from moneylenders. The process in general became stressful to the farmers itself leading to increase in the number of their suicides. The authors here want to draw the attention by creating awareness towards the ill effects of green revolution in order to have a meaningful way out of this which was necessity in 1970’s.
