Abstract

As research is becoming a basic requirement among faculty members in Higher Education Institutions (HEIs), teachers are encouraged to answer to the call of research writing and publishing. However, not all faculty members find it easy to conduct and write a research. This study looked into the motivational forces that drive the respondents to conduct research and their level of capabilities in doing research along conceptual skills, computational skills and technical skills. The study found out that the faculty members are moderately competent in conceptual skills; not competent in computational skills; and moderately competent in technical skills in doing research. The respondents identified promotion and enhancement or research skills to be their motivational force in research writing and publishing. Results of this research can become a basis in designing a research enhancement program to address the lack of competence of the faculty members in the research areas.
