Abstract

This study aims in describing the personal and socio-economic profile, farming practices and possible problems of the sugarcane farmers in Piat, Cagayan using a semi-structured questioner and descriptive statistics. The respondents are middle aged personally motivated literate small farmers cultivating 1-2 ha for not more than 15 years, earn below P50,000.00 but raise fund up to 5 percent, own basic farm implements. They generally practice a combination of traditional and modern farming,  but more of the former, and are beset with problems especially on the low cost of sugarcane in the market and if their tractors are damaged or there is typhoon or there is no rain.
