Increasing worker utilization of hard disk drive quality control line by using line balancing and discrete event simulation : Case study

Abstract

As high competition in hard disk drive global market, industries have to develop and utilize their resources to achieve maximum benefits. Hard disk drive quality control line always stands by their worker resource in order to finish the work as fast as possible. Although they can serve the demand, the worker utilization is too low. This study aims to increase worker utilization. Line balancing is used to find the optimal number of workers as the theoretical minimum (TM). Plant simulation is the tool for the utilization analysis. The result shown the worker utilization is increased from 20.28% to 78.59%.
