Abstract

In this paper, a novel lower edge defected and elliptical notched Ultra-Wideband (UWB, 3.1 - 10.6 GHz) antenna with defected ground structure (DGS) with enhanced bandwidth for multi-band operation was proposed. The band width can be enhanced and the antenna resonates at multiple frequencies i.e. 3.9/5.72/8.5/12.5/14.8 GHz (Wireless Inter-operability for Microwave. Access (Wi-MAX)/wireless local area network (W-L A N)/Satellite up & down links) by arc truncation of lower edges of the patch. The matching characteristics, further, can be improved by elliptical notch in the patch and DGS. It is operating in the frequency range of 2 to more than15 GHz. By observing the return loss (|S11|<-10dB), standing wave ratio  (SWR < 2), Omni-directional patterns, gain (< 5 dB) and bandwidth, the performance of the antenna can be estimated.
