Education and Employability – A critical analysis

Abstract

Employability is a complex construct which has been studied by various researchers to gain
insights into the predecessors and antecedent that lead on individual to secure a gainful employment. Most
of the studies concentrate on factors leading to employability of graduates. Human capital is also related
to employability and the framework of school program and conditions surrounding employability.
Employability is a consideration that turns human resources into human capital. The necessity to research
the different aspects of employability cannot therefore be obtained. Much of the employability studies are
aimed at explaining the connection between education and employability. This analysis have centered on
the various stages of higher education in order to explain the influences that have an impact on higher
education student in their job development. Therefore, any efforts made to study employability cannot
overlook the dimension of education. Consequently, any attempt made to research employability cannot
neglect the factor of schooling. The construction of employability has undergone a variety of
employability model, each based on several aspects that summarize the idea and principles of
employability. Each model has developed its own structure, variables and relationships related to person
or organizational aspects to describe employability. The present study also tries to identify the gap
projected by each model with an aim to fulfill the gap by developing a theoretical model which can be
validated by an empirical study
