Abstract

- India is yearning to take a turn towards Electric Mobility with an aim to make the country a
100 percent Electric Vehicle Nation by 2030. But today, in India EV market holds only 1 percent of total
vehicle sales. EVs are more expensive than conventional vehicles and requires a huge investment to
develop its infrastructure. FAME (Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Hybrid & Electric Vehicle)
scheme is launched by Central Government of India to expedite the processes like technology
infrastructure, pilots and market penetration. People are excited about EVs but are they really willing to
adopt this change? This paper looks upon public opinions about adoption of EVs by collecting the data
from social media posts and depicting the behavior using Sentiment Analysis. Social media reacts in real
time to new policies or news about anything. So, it can be a tremendous tool to extract public opinion. In
this approach, first a selected set of hashtags will be taken and a dynamic dictionary of words’ polarity
will be constructed, then, tweets will be classified under several classes like positive and negative to
observe an overall perception of the people about electric mobility.
