Describing quality of life and sociodemographic factors in older adults. Evidence collected in a national hospital in Peru

Abstract

Objective: To determine the relationship between quality of life and sociodemographic factors in older adults. Methodology: A quantitative, correlational, non-experimental design approach, with a sample of 300 older adults, the FUMAT Quality of Life Scale and a questionnaire that identified the factors were applied. Results: It was demonstrated that only 10.3% of the older adults perceived a high level of quality of life, while 45% and 44.7% had it in low and medium levels, respectively; likewise, the quality of life of these adults was significantly related (p<0.05) with age, sex, marital status and labor condition, while not with the degree of education; results that are relevant to improve their care, the same that must be linked to satisfy basic needs and maintain a family and social emotional support to ensure well-being in the last stage of life.
