Abstract

This research determined the predictors of the adaptive behavior of children with autism in the identified SPED Centers in Cebu City Division for school year 2018 – 2019 as basis for a proposed behavior development plan. There were 40 children with autism who were assessed by their teachers in terms of their adaptive behavior in terms of their communication, daily living, social and motor skills using the modified Vineland Adaptive Behavior Scales by Sparrow et al. (2016). Different statistical tools were used to treat the gathered data such frequency count, percentage, weighted mean, and multiple regression. Results showed that most of the respondents were males whose average age was 9.6 years old with parents who had reached college education. These respondents belong to families with a maximum monthly income of P 12, 000. Majority of them were just enrolled in a year and whose mothers are housewives. The respondents had moderately low adaptive skills in areas such as the communication, daily living, social and motor skills. Moreover, the profile of the respondents was not significant predictors of the four adaptive skills being assessed. Thus, a proposed behavior development plan is highly recommended for adoption.
