Abstract

Teachers play a dominant role in creating conducive learning environment as well as supporting
students’ ability to process information accurately. In addition, teacher plays a role in providing
optimal learning that is a cornerstone of emotional intelligence in determining student achievement.
This concept paper discusses effective classroom management strategies to improve student
behaviour to create positive emotional environments in the classroom. This will include factors that
contribute to positive emotional environments, such as the implementation of rules, routines, rewards
and execution of penalties. Clearly, the role of the teacher is as an agent of holistic student
development and to cultivate all aspects of self-development such as physical, cognitive, intellectual,
social, cultural, emotional and spiritual as well as intimate and friendly relationships. The five keys
for student learning requirements, such as safety, mental fitness, social interaction, logic and
meaningful, as well as information processing should be considered by the teachers in line with the
structured and instructed lessons in the classroom. This concept paper is very useful as students need
to feel safe from the physical and emotional aspects in improving their ability in learning. This is
because students require hope, acceptance and appreciation by teachers and friends. The existence of
a positive environment can develop creative and critical thinking human capital to solve problems
besides being able to adapt to the rapid flow of change in the global environment. Hence, this study
has the potential to be the trigger for knowledge development especially at the Trust School and
subsequently contributes to a large-scale extension study involving teachers’ motivation and
knowledge aspects in the Malaysian context.
