Detection of High Impedance Fault Using Discrete Wavelet Transform

Abstract

Electrical energy is one of the most promising form of energy. In order to meet the smooth and continuous supply of electrical energy, the power system has to be in a healthy condition. The conventional protective measures present in the power system are insufficient to identify a class of faults known as High Impedance Faults (HIFs). In this paper, detection of HIF using discrete wavelet transform is proposed and a simple threshold classifier has been implemented. The simulation has been carried out using a single generator bus system and the performance of the proposed system is verified using six level decomposition of energy signals obtained from Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT).
