Fear of Covid-19 and readiness towards online learning among undergraduate students during Movement Control Order in Malaysia

Abstract

This article discusses relevant information on teaching and learning scenario during the pandemic of COVID-19 which has resulted in the application of new norms in our daily lives especially in educational field. This research focuses on the issue of fear of COVID-19 and readiness towards online learning among 386 undergraduates in Northern peninsular of Malaysia. The longitudinal approach applied to this study when the data was collected two times to avoid common method bias issue. The descriptive analysis implemented to measure the level of fear and the level of readiness. Then the correctional analysis was applied to measure the relationship between psychological aspect namely fear of Covid 19 and readiness towards online learning during pandemic. The finding showed the negative correlation between both aspects. The undergraduate students are fearful of the deadly virus and its infection and are ready to use online learning as an alternative to face-to-face meeting. Even though full online learning is still in its early stage of implementation in Malaysia education system. This study provides the insights that are positive in relation to the use online platform in sharing of knowledge and proposes some aspects to be considered while implementing online learning in higher education.
