Metrics Analysis To Determine Popularity Factor Of Youtube Channels Keerthana V

Abstract

There is a rise in the number of content creators in YouTube. There are several metrics which can make a Youtube channel a popular one. Metrics like likes count, view count, comments countand subscriber count are useful in determining the popularity factor of YouTube channels. In order to check if there exists a positive correlation between these metrics, 9 famous Indian and Western music channels of the year 2019 in YouTube are considered to conduct this study. The video statistics details of these music channels are obtained by using a keyword-based search query and details are retrieved from YouTube Data API v3 on Google Developer Console. For the correlation check, a statistical test namely linear regression is used to the correlation factor between these metrics. This study is solely conducted for the purpose of helping the content creators who can provide content rich videos and expand their channel by posting videos which the audience expects.
