It Based Remote Education, A Challenge of Islamic Education Teachers Facing Covid-19 Issues

Abstract

Disaster spreading of Covid-19 when causing various shocks in many fields, including education. Malaysia and Indonesia are the two countries affected by this global disaster. Both governments issued the same policy for all students to study at home, and all teachers including Islamic Religious Education teachers also taught from home. The consequence of this policy is the occurrence of education. For Islamic Religious Education teachers this policy has its challenges because the achievements of Islamic Religious Education learning are not only aspects of cognition, but also affection and behavior change. The purpose of this study is to explore the Covid-19 case as a challenge as well as opportunities for teachers. The method used is qualitative with a literature study approach. The findings of this study are: this situation forces Islamic Religious Education teachers to improve their abilities, especially in dealing with IT-based learning technology, skills in choosing the latest and relevant media and methods, 21st-century skills according to the needs of the times and a comprehensive assessment that covers all aspects of students. Meanwhile, this case is an opportunity to re-enable education, especially Islamic religious education for families, build cooperation with parents and maximize the environment other than school as a source of learning. The conclusion is that for Islamic Religious Education teachers remote education policies can be used as an opportunity to improve their competence as well as opportunities to strengthen the learning outcomes of Islamic Religious Education in students.
