A Compact MIMO Metamaterial loaded “I” Shaped Dual Monopole Antenna for LTE, WiMAX and WLAN Applications

Abstract

Objective of this article is to propose a compact Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) metamaterial loaded dual monopole antenna for LTE, WiMAX and WLAN application.  The proposed MIMO antenna consists of two “I” shaped monopoles with modified ground plane is excited by two microstrip direct feeds at the two opposite ends of ground plane. In the proposed structure, dual monopoles with two Complementary Split Ring Resonators (CSRR) were exploited which result in multi band characteristics. Simulated and measured return loss reflect good degree of matching between each other and this design provides an efficiency of more than 88%  over the operating bands of MIMO antenna.
