Abstract

Metal products are subject to atmospheric corrosion during transportation, long-term storage and
operation. An important area in the fight against corrosion is the search for new packaging materials
containing volatile corrosion inhibitors. The urgency of the problem under investigation lies in the fact that
the export of metal products is mainly effectuated by sea through areas with a humid tropical climate.
According to experts, corrosion destroys up to a third of the annual production of ferrous metals, which is
the reason for the annual economic losses of large metallurgical enterprises. The article is devoted to the
review analysis and comparative study of modern packaging materials presented on the domestic market
over the last 10-15 years. Particular attention is paid to the consideration of polymer films and composite
paper-based packaging materials. The study reveals that modern packaging materials containing corrosion
inhibitors have unconditional advantages over traditional preservation methods by lubrication and oils. The
analysis of the produced packaging materials reveals their shortcomings and advantages and indicates their
main operational properties. In order to increase the competitiveness of domestic packaging composite
materials for metal products, it is necessary to improve their production technology, for example, by
increasing the inhibitor content in packaging materials and the creping of the paper base, or by increasing
the deformation-strength properties due to reinforcement, etc. The materials of the article can be useful for
metal producers, scientists and specialists while selecting modern packaging materi
