Abstract

This preliminary study analyses the level of satisfaction among female residents on the public lowcost
housing standards in Malaysia. The primary objective of this study is to determine the adequacy of the
low-cost housing in terms of public facilities, flat features and the social environment in relations to the needs
of women. Directly, it mirrors the quality standards of low-cost housing provided by Local Government in
Malaysia. The methodology used in this study is cross-sectional with a convenience sampling to identify the
sample. A total of 181 female residents were assessed using a Likert scale. The questionnaires were personally
administered by the researchers to the female residents of PHP Kampung Limau, Pantai Dalam, Kuala
Lumpur, Malaysia. On average, results showed that the majority of the PHP female residents scored higher
mean for all the independent variables (public facilities, flat features and social environment). In conclusion,
this study hopes to inspire policymakers and implementers to think about new strategies with creative,
innovative and positive changes for improving new building standards for the low-cost housing programme
specifically in Malaysia.
