Abstract

The problem among person(s) with disabilities (PWDs) is no longer a new thing in Malaysia.
When a person becomes disabled, they will be exposed to various psychosocial and spiritual problems.
Given the problem of disabled people in Malaysia, issues involving spiritual psychosocial elements are still
less widely discussed. In this regard, this study was conducted to test the validity of the Spiritual
Psychosocial Instrument of the Physically Disabled People (PWD-P) and to identify the suitability of its use
in Malaysia. This study involved 154 PWD-P respondents residing in three rehabilitation institutions in
Malaysia using simple random sampling methods. The instrument is based on the construct found in the
questionnaire of The Forty-Eight Item Counseling Evaluation Test (48 ICET) and Spiritual Wellbeing. The
questionnaire was modified according to the suitability of PWD-P in Malaysia. A pilot study of 30
respondents found that a psychosocial spiritual instrument had a Cronbach Alpha coefficient of 0.936. The
findings show that there are 21 items out of seven constructs that did not achieve the standard loading values
set. Therefore, the researcher has dropped the item which makes the total number of items to 46. The results
of the CFA analysis have shown that all these variables have reached the established Goodness-of-fit (GOF)
standards. Based on the results of this analysis, it is found that this instrument can be used to measure the
PWD-P spiritual psychosocial problems in more detail as each item is based on the actual issue of PWD-P.
This instrument is seen as a platform for counselors in identifying and assisting PWD-P to solve the
problem.
