Abstract

A consistent increase in energy prices, acute energy shortage, forever widening and supply gap has
made efficiency and conservation measures need of the hour. Energy Auditing is a systematic study of the
existing energy consumption pattern and to suggest suitable measures for improving energy efficiency. This
energy audit study of a multi-specialty hospital at Vellore comprised of various electrical and mechanical
systems such as fans, computers, motors, medical laboratory instruments, air conditioners, DG Sets, and
lighting. Their energy consumption pattern was estimated. Implementation of energy conservation measures
indicated that about 883 tons of carbon dioxide emissions could be mitigated annually. An energy audit helps
in tracking energy consumption sources and suggests ways to conserve energy and the environment. It also
helps in reducing operating costs and environmental damage, thus paving way for sustainable development.
