Doping Understanding Survey on the Indonesian Asean Paragames Athletes and Coaches of 2020

Abstract

In sporting events, doping leads to the using of substances that are prohibited for athlete’s
performance.. This is a qualitative research. The research was carried out in collaboration with the NPC
(National Paralympic Committee) Indonesia by involving Indonesian Asean Para Games athletes and coaches
as research subjects. The sampling technique was used the proportionate stratified random sampling technique.
Data collection techniques are interviews and questionnaires. The data validity was used triangulation
techniques (interviews) and data sources (documents). Data analysis was used Miles and Huberman’s model.
The research result shown that anti-doping understanding of Indonesian Asean Para Games athletes and
coaches is 49.5 % and 50.15%. From the interviews results on educational indicators or anti-doping
socialization, most athletes admitted that anti-doping socialization was rarely held. The most of coaches has
gained experience of getting anti-doping education through training and socialization. The research data
shown that respondents of Indonesian Asean Para Games athletes and coaches are understands doping in
general. Athletes and coaches understand that doping is prohibited in the world of sport and are aware of the
negative effects of using doping. However, doping specific understanding on violations of anti-doping rules,
doping substances, prohibited list and athletes’ right to exemption from therapeutic use (TUE) is lacking. So
that it was need an anti-doping education program to increase the understanding of athletes and coaches about
anti-doping
