Abstract

Food supply chain is a complex network and is faced by challenges that introduce risks in every
node of the distribution network. These risks contribute to negative economic consequences to an
organization. It is imperative for organizations to be able to identify, detect and develop definite mitigation
strategies to alleviate the impact of risk. The paper aims to identify the risks that impact the efficiency of the
agri-food supply chain and conducts exploratory factor analysis to identify the critical factors which
influence risk detection, identification and mitigations strategies. In order to test the hypothesis formulated
in the research methodology, an expert interview with 100 experts was conducted and an extensive field
survey consisting of 512 respondents was conducted for data collection. The results obtained are based on
the qualitative analysis carried out to understand risk factors influencing infrastructure gaps, channel
collaboration & management, perishability nature of the product are the main indicators for risk
identification.
