Abstract

—In the urban or metropolitan cities of the developing and developed countries, Solid waste
collection and management is an utmost significant concern because of growing population. This enormous
unmanaged accumulation of garbage is polluting the atmosphere, spoiling the attractiveness of the area and
also leading to the health hazard. The proposed SMART WASTE MANAGEMENT SYSTEM which
emphasizes on “DIGITAL INDIA” is used to employ a smarter approach of waste management using smart
sensors to gather fill – garbage level of the bin, weight of the trash collected, occurrence of toxic gases,
stinking form from the bins and presence of waste around the dustbin and send information to server in real
time which can be monitored by Waste Management Centers (WMCs).The data obtained from above system
can be used to systematically plan optimal route-map to collect garbage. The collected statistics is used to
obtain dustbin utilization and dustbin daily seasonality information. With such information, cleaning
contractors are able to make better decision to enhance productivity. To generate awareness among people
credit points are provided according to the weight of the garbage thrown through a QR code scanning
method affixed in the bin
