Abstract

Many condensed linear Schiff base polymers were prepared from condensation 4,4-Hexamethylenebis (oxybenzaldehyde) with different aliphatic and aromatic diamines compounds such as Butylene diamine, Haxemethylene diamine, 4-Phenylene diamine and Benzidine. The first step was prepared 4,4-Hexamethylenebis (oxybenzaldehyde) (monomer) synthesis by the interaction between 4-hydroxybenzaldehyde with Dibromohexane using potassium carbonate as a catalyst. The monomer and polymers were characterized by melting point, FT-IR, 1H NMR, Differential Scanning Calorimeter (DSC) and Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). SM-A Monomer and Polymer preparation is discussed briefly. Aromatic Schiff base polymers (SM-N3) and (SM-N4) as well as better thermal stability than aliphatic Schiff base polymers (SM-N1) and (SM-N2).
