Android Application Model of “What’s Dating Violence” as an Innovation to Increase the Knowledge among Adolescents

Abstract

Background : The high number of dating violence in courtship is due to the large number of women who do not understand the forms of physical or psychological violence in a relationship.

 

Aims : This study aims to test the effectiveness of the android application program of "What’s Dating Violence" in improving the knowledge and understanding among adolescent girls in Indonesia.

 

Settings : The study was conducted in the Vocational Schools in Samarinda, Indonesia.

 

Methods : This study used a Quasi Experimental Design with a pretest-posttest with control group study design. A total of 320 adolescent girls from 2 Vocational Schools in Samarinda were selected using a multi-stage sampling technique to determine the study site and study respondents and they were assigned equally to the control group and intervention group. The questionnaire used was tested for validity and reliability.

 

Results : The mean knowledge of dating violence among adolescents.Adolescent knowledge about dating violence in the intervention group and the control group increased after counseling. The combination of counseling and application among adolescents significantly increased the mean knowledge of dating violence, compared to those who only received counseling.

 

Conclusion : The study results indicated that the application could prevent dating violence and reduced the number of victims of dating violence. The study results can be important information for the women's empowerment and child protection department and the PIK-Youth forum to socialize the android application program especially among adolescent girls.
