Abstract

Growing energy demand together with increasing environmental concerns has widened the interest in hydropower
generation. In addition to conventional large-scale dam- operated hydropower technologies, several smaller scale
hydropower machines are being explored for providing local energy solutions.71% of surface area on earth is
covered with slow moving water , but the production of electricity from this slow moving water is a problem (as in
rivers, streams, irrigation canals etc). Our aim is to make optimal design of a medium scale power generation system
that can effectively convert the energy from slow- moving water into electricity and store it. This system can be
installed in/on/partially submerged in water bodies .Further iterations of the model to suite it for different terrains
and water flow’s will be explored .The final blueprint of the system will be made open sourced so that anyone can
build and use it in small scale electricity generation (micro grid in hydro power generation.
